Though snow blowers save many from the headache of shoveling, they also have a big hand in pollution, as it is a machine that uses fuel for the removal of snow. A snow blower transfers the same amount of pollutants to the environment in an hour that a car does after running 70 miles. According to researches it contributes at least one pound of carbon monoxide to its surroundings in an hour.
Two-stroke engine
A two-stroke engine does not have enough power to remove large chunks of snow and so it is more harmful for the environment as it burns oil in the procedure.
Four-stroke engine
A four-stroke engine is more efficient and does not burn oil, it only contributes a 1/10th of pollutants to its surroundings. They are said to be more friendly with the environment and comparatively faster in getting the snow out of your way.
Over-head valve engines
For a greener environment newer snow blowers are being constructed with over-head valve engines. As these engines have been created keeping in mind a pollution free environment they are almost 75% less polluting than the previous ones. Those who plan to purchase second hand snow blowers are advised to go for the greener ones instead as this will lead to a cleaner environment.
Fuel pollution
To decrease the rate of pollution that is caused by the snow blowers, owners should not let the fuel leak on to the ground. At the end of the season, one should clean the snow blower equipment and remove all the excess oil left in the machine. For those who own a gas snow blower, they can add a stabilizer to the gasoline to keep it fresh and to prevent any deposits from forming.
How maintenance can save from pollution?
A well maintained snow blower will contribute less in polluting the environment. As the more cleaner the snow blower equipment the cleaner will be its emissions. If the fuel is not changed, or has been sitting in the machine for a long time, it will develop deposits and contaminate the environment. It is very important to change the fuel of the machine at least once in a year. Not just that, but the snow that gets clogged in the auger, should be cleaned from time to time. The trapped snow will burn more oil, make the machine slow and reduce its life.

Below stated is a description that will help you in understanding snow blower functions properly.
Frame of the snow blower
A frame is usually made of metal as it holds all other snow blower components. It does consist of other parts made of plastic. As long as the plastic is of high quality, it will serve well. But if the metal and plastic are not durable, they won’t hold up for long and you may have to go back to shoveling the snow again. A frame should have less plastic and more metal.
The Carburetor
To ensure great performance of the machine the carburetor should work well. The performance depends on the fuel of the snow blower, as the fuel provides it the power to push the snow away. The carburetor is the section where the gasoline mixes with oxygen. If the amount of oxygen is very low, or very high, it will affect the performance of the machine. Along with poor performance, it might even damage the machine in the long run. Before making a purchase, a buyer can ask about the brand and performance of the blower’s carburetor.
The Auger
The most important component of the machine, an auger is the spinning metal cork screw at the front of a snow blower. It is the auger that cuts the ice and sends it in the machine to the impeller which throws it out though the chute. It is essential for the removal of snow that the auger is made up of good metal and also sharp enough to pierce into ice. How deeply a snow blower can remove ice depends on how much the auger can dig and cut the snow. Every snow blower has its own capacity to which it can remove ice.
Snow Blower Engine
There are two types of engines for snow blowers, a two-stroke engine and a four-stroke engine. As the engine is the runner of the machine it guarantees how much snow you will be able to remove. In areas that face heavy rain fall, one should buy a four stroke engine as it will easily remove the snow instead of stalling. A two-stroke engine fails to remove large amounts of snow.
Snow Blower Chute
The job of a chute is to throw the snow out of the machine, usually they come with a joystick that helps the user direct snow out of the machine. It can be turned the way the user wants too. A chute should be of good quality and not let the snow clog inside the machine or it will slow down.

Before the winter season hits, make sure your snow blower is in working condition. Snow blowers need regular maintenance because of the hazardous tasks they perform. Before one starts with the maintenance and repair of a snow blower, it is imperative to check the manual guides provided with the machine. The operation and capacity of both the gas and electric snow blowers is different from each other. The gasoline snow blower can take up more load and cleans a considerably high amount of snow, but also makes more noise. The electric snow blower, on the other hand, cannot take a lot of load and has a less capacity of snow blowing.
Check the belts and bolts
Before the snow starts falling have the bolt and belts checked. The snow that traps in the auger can cause the belt or pin to break. By checking the belts and bolts of the machine, one can know which part needs to replacing and which needs fixing.
Tighten the nuts and bolts
As the snow blowing machine vibrates while operating, the nuts and bolts should be checked each time you start the machine, in case they have become loose.
Change the oil
The owner’s manual will provide you instructions on which oil to use. A machine’s smooth operation depends on the oil that you use and how frequently you change it. When filling the tank with new fuel it is beneficial to add some menthol in it, as this will prevent ice from gathering in the carburetor. Also, it avoids condensation in the tank. For snow blowers, it is recommended to change the oil once a year, but it is essential to change the oil whenever the snow blower is being used for the first time in a season. The old oil will have particles and dust in it, which could damage the machine.
Use a fuel stabilizer
Add a stabilizer to your fuel, this way it will remain clean throughout the season. A stabilizer also prevents the oil from clogging or trapping in the carburetor.
Warm up
Always give the machine a little warm up time, when the motor gets too cold.
External cleaning
A snow blower not only needs to be cleaned from the inside but it also needs to be washed from the outside. Spraying some preventive oil on the machine is also advised.

Everyone loves the wintertime, but winters can be really troubling too. In winters, one gets trapped inside the house if the snow outside is not cleared. Snow blowers are used by a huge part of the population to get snow out of their way. But statistics have showed that a large part of the population get injured due to these snow blowers every year. One needs to take care of a few details before the snow blowing action starts.
One needs to gear up and protect themselves before they set out to clear the snow. It might not look that complicated, but things can get pretty unfavorable if a few precautions are not taken. Snow blowing safety precautions are outlined below.
While making a purchase, one should check the machine properly so that no functioning default occurs later on. As everyone knows the amount of snow that gathers around their house, they should purchase a snow blower according to it. Also, the space available in their homes should be kept in mind. A snow blower must not be started in a closed environment as carbon monoxide release from it can be deadly.
A person who is planning to operate a snow blower should dress properly, even though it might seem like a silly precaution to take, it can make a lot of difference too. Wearing ear plugs is recommended as the machine is very loud and can cause unbearable migraines or headaches. Even though it may not seem necessary, one needs to protect their eyes as well. While operating a snow blower, not just the snow, but particles in it too get thrown here and there, so it is imperative that one covers their eyes to avoid any injury.
Wearing clothes that are water resistant will be ideal, as one is working in snow it can get really wet. Especially wearing leather boots is advised as feet stay in snow for quite a long time. The consistent wet and cold weather can cause serious sickness to the operator of the machine.
Avoid sticking fingers or hands in the machine, as there is a wide chance for them getting injured or cut. Whenever the machine gets jammed, it should be cleared with a broom or a stick. What users usually do is that they clear the jammed auger of the snow blower with their own hands. As soon as the jammed auger comes to place, it comes with so much force that it harms the user.
Clearing piles of snow itself is a very difficult task, so it is essential to take precautions before any one gets hurt.

‘Snow blowers’ or ‘snow throwers’ are used to remove snow from unwanted areas such as driveways, railway tracks, roads, backyards and so on. Due to heavy snowfall, these areas become accumulated with snow so much that it becomes impossible to commute. For the removal of snow from these areas, three types of snow blowers are available which are discussed below:
Single-Stage Electric Snow Blower
A single stage electric snow blower, as the name suggests, runs through electricity, and is not driven by wheels. It has a rubber auger which takes in the snow and throws it out at the same time. A single stage snow blower is ideal as it occupies a very small space and is very user-friendly. It is not only smaller than the other two types of snow blowers, but also costs less. It is suitable to clear out walkways and depending upon the capacity can clear from 4 to 11 inches of snow.
Single-stage Gas Snow Blower
The best part about a gas snow blower is that one does not have to deal with a cord and moving around becomes more easy. It is more powerful than an electric snow blower and can run on gas and diesel. A gas snow blower can remove almost double the amount of snow than an electric snow blower and it is not even heavy in weight. Though expensive, it is very easy to store and does not take up much space.
These snow blowers are more suitable for flat driveways, but a user has a more appropriate idea of how much snow they will deal with.
Two-Stage Gas Snow Blower
A two stage gas snow blower is not only huge, but also very expensive. It is for areas where there is a lot of snowfall, around 30 inches deep. So it obviously is more powerful than the above two mentioned.
The Difference
The difference between a single stage and a two stage snow blower is due to the process. A single stage snow blower picks up snow and throws it along the ways. A two stage snow blower, on the other hand, picks up snow in the first stage and dispels it in the second stage. While buying a snow blower one should keep two things in mind, one is the amount of snow that is expected to accumulate. The second is the amount of storage space that is available to keep a snow blower.

Fall season is not just about raking leaves. It’s also a good time to engage in different gardening activities. You may want to plant some trees or shrubs in your yard. Or you may choose to plant your bulbs in time for spring. If you have a big yard, it would benefit you to use a skid steer, which is a compact tractor that may be used for digging and landscaping projects. For gardening purposes, you may attach different attachments that will help you in mowing, digging, and moving heavy stuff around. Here are a few attachments that will prove helpful for fall gardening.
Mower
This skid steer attachment may be used to cut down bushes, thick grasses, and even short trees. It is frequently used to clear fields or cut down brush around the trees. In general, this kind of attachment is placed flat on the ground with small blades lining the bottom. To protect users from flying debris, the mower is equipped with a front grate. If you have a large yard to cut, you would need a mower with a wider deck.
Auger
There are plenty of autumn flowers and plants to choose from to bring some color to your garden. If you’re thinking of doing a lot of planning, then an auger may just be for you. This attachment is composed of a long, rotating shaft with circular discs protruding all over it. An auger is handy for creating horizontal grooves in the soil for aerating the soil to prep it for planting. For planting purposes, you may also create vertical grooves using the auger.
Backhoe
This is a multi-purpose skid steer attachment that may be used for moving and digging. It features a bucket with a sharp edge. If the bucket is attached facing downward, the backhoe may be used to dig and scoop out materials. If it’s facing upward, you can slide it under materials and carry them to and from your yard. For fall gardening, the backhoe attachment is useful should you need to dig trenches into your garden or clear away debris from your yard.
